Market Analysis

WHY IMMUNOLOGY?

In the world the third most common disease category, after cancer and heart disease, is autoimmune disease (AD), affecting 5% to 8% of the U.S. population. Autoimmunity is the second highest underlying cause of >100 serious chronic illnesses, with >50 million Americans possessing at least one serious chronic illness. The National Institutes of Health’s (NIH) Office of Research on Women’s Health has declared autoimmune disease to be a major women’s health issue because it is one of the 10 leading causes of death in women aged <65 years. It is also the fourth largest cause of disability in women. At least 15 diseases result directly from an autoimmune response, and >80 conditions are associated with autoimmunity. Genetic background is responsible for AD in 30% of cases; inherited factors are the cause in 70% of cases.

WHY ARE AUTOIMMUNE DISORDERS ON THE RISE?

There are so many triggers for autoimmune disease, including stress, diet, lack of exercise, insufficient sleep and smoking. Anything that causes chronic inflammation in the body can eventually lead to the development of an autoimmune disease, which could be one reason they are becoming increasingly common.

PREVALENCE OF AUTOIMMUNE DISORDERS

The means ± s.d. of the net % increased /year incidence and prevalence of autoimmune diseases worldwide were 19.1±43.1 and 12.5±7.9, respectively.

The global autoimmune disease diagnosis market is expected to reach USD 4.73 Billion by 2022 from USD 3.09 Billion in 2017, at a CAGR of 8.9%.

GLOBAL AUTOIMMUNE DISEASE TREATMENT MARKET

The autoimmune diseases treatment market was valued at USD 40,944.9 Mn in 2015, and is expected to reach USD 52,456.3 Mn by 2022, expanding at a CAGR of 3.53% from 2016 to 2022.
